The station, which is based in the town’s District Hospital and this year celebrates its 40th anniversary, is looking for new members to visit wards and take music requests from patients, family members and friends.
Harrogate Hospital Radio chairman Mark Oldfield said: “Request collecting is a key role as the patient request shows are at the heart of our programming.
“We have a superb team here at Harrogate Hospital Radio, and we are now looking to strengthen their numbers by recruiting new volunteers. Our request collectors are the visible face of Harrogate Hospital Radio. They are the ones who visit the wards and speak to staff, patients and visitors. It is a very rewarding role and I regularly join members on ward visits.”
Mr Oldfield said those who might consider becoming a request collector should be able to spare a few hours a week, during the early afternoon, on a regular basis, be interested in music and a have good “bedside manner”.
Additionally, Mr Oldfield said candidates should have legible hand-writing and have a certain amount of stamina as the majority of the shift – typically two hours – is spent walking around wards.
